From the Well 3

And the winner is:

Nick Smith’ reading his story ‘Dead Languages’:Image

from which the anthology title is derived.

Thanks to all at Cork County Library Arts Service for a lovely launch, beautifully produced book, and great lunchtime of chat and stories at this year’s launch of the twenty shortlisted entries in the From The Well short story competition.  The winner and four others were all from Clonakilty Library creative writers group. Three of the short list belong to the ‘Crawfies’ creative writing group. El Vino writers group also had three on the short list. Perhaps there is something about belonging to a writing group? Not least, as Nick Smith overall winner says, the savage critique we offer one another!

Thanks to Sinéad Donnelly for organising us all. And to the county librarian; Eileen O’ Brien  and the county arts officer, Ian Macdonagh for all their support

Great to meet two of the three judges, Vincent McDonnell and Billy O’ Callaghan. Theirs was not an easy job.

Good also to meet fellow scribes on the short list including, among others, Mary Healy, Barbara Leahy, Marie Gethins, Mary Roche,  and Marie Murphy.

Hope our paths cross again soon.

Plod on.

Happy writing
